Photo by a nice man passing in a speed boat on the Solent!
Doris is our beloved 2012 Southerly 47.
She is a solid blue-water matriarch, kind in heavy weather, nimble enough to lift her keel to be beached and very forgiving of two old bimblers who love her.
We are working to reduce our carbon footprint and tread gently on the oceans we love.
With a solar powered electric propulsion system and a little help from mechanical regeneration (when we sail the propeller spins and recharges the battery), we intend to be self-sufficient and pursue our round the world dream without it 'costing the earth' for our children.
Sally is a Professor of Obstetrics who works on placentas whilst dreaming of the sea and Dave is a retired engineer.
We have so many friends who have asked about Doris and our circumnavigation plans that we decided the only thing for it was to Blog.
Please bear with us, we're new to this (old dogs spring to mind....). We are not sponsored by anyone and have no plans to try to make money from it (just as well I hear you cry). If we mention any businesses it is because we are genuinely impressed by them.
