New rigging
We were warned when we bought her that standing rigging needs changing every 10 years. The survey was fine so it was very easy to play ostrich while we were tackling the sexy new electrics. Then we met a lovely Dutch skipper in Port en Basin who swung aboard for a quick chat and took an instant dislike to the 'give' in our standing rigging. He tried to be terribly polite but we got a bit of a lecture about our rigging. We are quite used to the fact that EVERYONE has an opinion on what you should and shouldn't be doing with your sail boat, it's a bit like being a parent in that sense, and we happily raised two children whilst ignoring people telling us we simply MUST employ the 'Dr Spock method for empowering the disgruntled Toddler' or whatever the latest fad was! We thanked him for his kind advice then set off back across the channel.Â
However, this interaction and the fact that she will be 11yrs old this autumn crystallised the need for us to address the rigging. Enter the next part of the Sail Electric family, Alan from Sail Shape. After another long meeting with him we decided not only to get him to help us with the standing rigging but make us our new cruising sails and the exciting solar cell laden bimini.
She is currently lounging about in Hamble Point Marina with lots for fantastic men tending to her new rigging. Quite the demanding matriarch.
